First up, apologies. I was in New Zealand during the January tournament, so I haven't gathered any decklists. I can give you a standing, but I don't even know what everyone played. I know what the winner played though: Cheese. Yes, that's the mono-red Quest for the Pure Flame deck that won the Fall Qualifiers! This month (or I should say, last month) I was back however, so here are the results of February!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot! We've got a new update to the banned list that I will be posting about later this evening. It'll probably shake things up quite a bit, so stay tuned ;)

Well, six decks but only four different decklists. The metagame must be pretty clear! Dirty Kitty took the tournament for the bazillionth time though, despite two WeeBee decks poised to beat it with 4 maindeck Zealous Persecutions and loads of discard. What's that hammering sound? Could it be?

Banned List Update

Only a minor adjustment to the watchlist, but worth noting anyway.

Because of the continued dominance of André's Dirty Kitty deck, we decided to put Empty the Warrens back on the watchlist. The card has been on and off the watchlist before, but before Zendikar the deck proved to be very beatable with some dedicated sideboard hate. Goblin Bushwhacker changed all that however, as the deck can now play the full set of Fecundities, and is far more lethal with 2/1 hasty goblins.

So far no one else has picked up the deck, and we think sideboards are not optimally equipped to beat the deck. If, however, more people start playing Dirty Kitty, and their overall performance takes on Affinity-era proportions (losses to only mirror matches and dedicated maindeck hate decks) despite proper sideboarding, we will have to take more drastic measures to ensure a healthy environment.

Results December 17, 2010

December brought 12 players, not as much as earlier tournaments this season, but more than enough for a fun night. André remains the man to beat with Dirty Kitty, but the new Umbral Elves list from last time proved good enough to be one of the top decks again. Oh, and I've got one brand spanking new deck for you, courtesy of me. I lost to Umbral Elves and Thopter Teachings, but it's a blast to play! As you will see, sideboard could shore up a few matchups!
