Decks for you to play with, part deux!

Hey lovely readers, today we bring you an update a little different than most. At the start of this season Johan and I built some decks we felt were interesting in that metagame and left them at our the Purperen Draak. We wanted to get more players acquainted with Peasant magic and this along with some active promotion from our storekeep could achieve just that. Additionally, the decks were left there for the people who had not gotten around to making a deck of their own, but wished to compete anyway. During the first half of the season this formula proved highly successful, a lot of people had fun with those decks. Now, however, we feel that those decks are not well suited for the metagame anymore, so we decided to design a couple of new ones!

The first of three decks has been a strong contender throughout this season. A versatile deck that has it all: speed as its main strength, protection, flying, pumping, tapping, first strike. For their manacost your creatures will prove to be better than those of your opponent in most cases. The deck is also packing lots of removal with Sunlance, Journey to Nowhere and Lawkeepers, clearing the way for your army to take chumps out of your opponents life total. Squadron Hawks provide you some cardadvantage and can be lethal when equipped with a Bonesplitter (or two). Redundant to clarify why White Weenie was the winner of our Winter Qualifier tournament. Do you like dropping impressive one and two cc creatures? Does curve make your heart beat faster? Then White Weenie is the deck for you!

The second deck has been around since the dawn of time. This primordial monstrosity devours all in its path, draining its opponents of their lifeforce or simply snuffing out that force with a cruel lumbering thump. In short, MBC is back. In recent months it has seen some play, indicating the concept is still appealing to players. This version, however, hopes to deal with some of the weaknesses of MBC by adding a splash of white into the mix. In the mainboard a very nice addition is Aven Riftwatcher, but especially the sideboard has some new tricks. Hallow should provide a tool for both burn and the mirror, whereas the solemn offering gives MBC the tool to deal with those pesky artifacts and enchantments. Or course, the deck also supports Skeletal Scrying, lifedrain and its trusty package of black removal. If you love destroying your opponents creatures and draining them dry, the MBC is the deck for you!

Then the final deck... This deck is mad, simply mad. Frantic magics of fire and life crash and thunder around the ferocious beasts of this deck. They mean to rip your opponent's throat out with claw and tooth, with mana and blood alike flowing rich from the gaping wound. Ok, enough for the gruesome descriptions, bottomline is that this G/R threshold deck will allow you to display legacy-like amounts of spells cast in the early turns in order to build an impressive board state. Kiln fiend is a monster, which can grow very, very large, very quickly. Werebear and especially Nimble Mongoose are fatties in their own right, with the Mongoose's shroud being worth of special mention. The support of Kird Apes and Basking Rootwallas rounds out the decks creature base whereas the rest of the deck is focused on mana-fixing and grinding down your deck in very non-gruul-like fashion. If you like explosiveness and smashing your opponents face in while grinding down your deck Mad Doorsteps is the deck for you!

These decks will be in the Purperen Draak as soon as possible, but anyone who would want to play one of these decks next tournament (26/4) just has to give Johan or me a nudge, we have a copy of our own.

HAVE FUN!
