Results August 14th, 2025

This tournament was the last hurrah before the new banlist takes effect, taking out Goblin Bushwhacker, Hopeless Nightmare, and Sadistic Glee, and unbanning Ephemerate and Gush. People are looking forward to those unbannings, but instead of picking up the soon-to-be-weakened tier 1 decks, most people showed up with original decks. What can I say, we do love brewing in Groningen! ;) The most meta deck this night was The Rock, and it unfortunately finished rock bottom. The winner was a well-known outsider though, with Joris's Elves deck plowing through the field, dropping only a single game against the third place Heroic deck, and also causing my only loss of the evening, beating Sultai Beans in the finals. Congratulations on a well-deserved victory Joris! As for the banned cards, there were a few copies of Sadistic Glee and Goblin Bushwhacker on the night, but both Donald and Rik finished outside of the top 4 with their takes on the Broodscale combo and the Kuldotha package.

Before we move on to the decklists, I wanted to share with you that we're playing more Peasant this August! During a local MagicFest at the end of the month, players will be able to join Four-Player On-Demand Peasant Tournaments. I hope to be able to bring you the winning decklists for these events at the start of next month! First things first, though. Have fun perusing the August 14th decklists!

Just one month between the third Peasant tournament and the second, are we returning to monthly tournaments?! The next tournament is on July the 10th, I'll let you decide! This time around (in June, that is), we had 11 players. Some brought an established deck, some cooked up something fresh, but the winner did a bit of both! Congratulations to Donald, who took down the tournament with a twist on Broodscale Combo, forsaking the Demonic Consultations and Ghost Lanterns we so often see in this deck, and finding a new home for his beloved Fleshrakers. Is he going to play Fleshraker Affinity next? Only time will tell!

Results May 8th, 2025

After a succesful reboot of the Peasant format in March, we return in May with almost twice the number of participants! 15 people gathered on a Thursday afternoon to sling commons and uncommons at each other. Sadly I wasn't able to attend myself, but I do have the standings and a bunch of decklists for you all! WeeBee, once again, took the top honors, going not only 4-0 in matches, but also 8-0 in games. It's not easy to go truly undefeaten on a night, but Jannes pulled it off. Congratulations!

Joris, also once again, took second place with a tweaked version of his Elves list. "Newcomers" Melle and Rick shared the 3-0 record with a homebrew Rakdos Reanimator decklist, and good old Kuldotha Burn. Rik, who was on Elves last time, managed to salvage blue's reputation by just eking out a winning 2-0-1 record with a Dimir Terror build. Nice! I haven't managed to gather all the decklists yet, but I would say the lower regions are worth taking a look at as well, if only for the fun decklists. Who doesn't want to cast baby Rhino's over and over?! Enjoy!

Is that… a pulse? I thought the patient was pronounced dead?! That's right, after 12 long years, this blog just twitched back to life. We know, it’s been a minute (or, you know, over a decade), but Peasant Magic is getting a reboot in our little scene. If you're an old fan, you might even recognize a name or two!

So, what’s new? What’s old? What’s next? We're dusting this place off and diving back in, starting with some rules realignment! We used to have our own banlist, but since the French scene has consolidated Peasant and held the torch high in our absence, we've decided to start following their rules and banlist. One additional benefit is that we can use their results over the past year(s) for inspiration, and they, in turn, can use our decklists as well, if they want to.
